After a second weekend of competition at County Championships in Cambridge I am proud of all our swimmers who all performed fantastically well achieving lots of incredible personal bests whilst bringing back a big medal haul and bagging new club records.
Over the 2 weekends of competition swimmers achieved 124 PB,s, 78 over the first weekend and 46 over the second weekend with Florence Law achieving 12 PB,s , Josh Botes 9, Zoe Thompson 8 Dexter Davey, Annabelle Smith and Emily d Souza 6 PB,s.
City of Ely swimmers took part in 62 finals and were able to win 27 medals, 6 Gold, 7 Silver and 14 Bronze medals. Cillian o, Brien swam so well in the 100 IM that he made it through to the SKINS final a fantastic achievement breaking up the Cambridge and Peterborough monopoly of the event and achieving a PB in his 50 fly swim
Special mention has to go to Florence Law who not only won so many medals and achieved 12 new PB,s but was also awarded the prize for top 12 years old girl at the Championships . Congratulations go to her for all her hard work and success at Counties, a splendid achievement.
Club records also continued to fall at the Championships with a further 3 new club records being broken bringing a total of 12 over the course of competition.
My sincere thanks go out to all our swimmers who took part in the Counties this year who performed so well in the pool and on poolside, well done everybody. Thank you to all our Team Managers who were able to great job looking after our swimmers
Again I extend a big thank you to all our volunteer coaches Mark Banwell, Martyn Fresher, Matt Daybell, Sam Hatch, Wendy Pashley, Becky Daniels and young aquatic helpers Mia Mansfield and Anna Harrison for working poolside over the Counties weekends to ensure that all of our swimmers could continue to train at the Hive.
Similarly thank you also for all the City of Ely Club ‘Whites’ and volunteers who gave up their time and energy to make the Counties a success for this club and those throughout the County
