Wonderful weather greeted us on Sunday at Whittingham Lake with water temperatures of 24°C making for some great open water swimming and Ely did not disappoint. In both the one kilometre and two-kilometre events Ely were able to win 10 county medals and two regional medals. Isabella Beardmore swam really well in her one-kilometre event winning County Gold in the 13/14 years female category just failing to make podium in Regionals finishing 4th. Josh Botes also won County Gold in 15/16 male two-kilometre event and finished sixth in the region. Another golden girl Lola Carey took first place in the one kilometre 15 /16 years old female category. Phil Trelford and Alison Woods won County Golds in their respective two-kilometre events with both winning Silver at Regional level, great to see them on the podium. Felicity Gates won County Silver 15/16 female one kilometre event. Whilst brother and sister Emelia and Leo Beswick each won County Bronze in the 1K event in their respective age category. Two of our recent alumni swimming under City of Ely colours Zach Woods and Nora Daniels both won Silver at County level in the two-kilometre event. Erin Latimer and Will Clay both feeling unwell on the day courageously managed to finish 4th and 5th respectively in the one-kilometre event at County level. Charlotte Beardmore competing at her first competitive open water event finishing 5th at County level in the one-kilometre event
I congratulate all of them on their hard work in open water training and pulling off great performances all round on the day. I hope more swimmers will perhaps give it a go next year
